ASPARAGUS

GRUPO LLAHUEN a leading company in the production of strawberry plants for more of 50 years in the market, which has diversified its production  agricultural to asparagus seeds  under the name of LLAHUEN  SEEDS. Llahuen Seeds produces hybrid seed  asparagus  F1 developed under the improvement program of the University of California Riverside, being the only  licensed nursery to multiply asparagus seeds outside the state of California. Among the varieties of green asparagus that are usually used for the market  cool in the main warm regions  we can mention UC 157, DePaoli (UC 115)  and the arrival of Espada, which has had excellent results in warm areas, improving the conditions of DePaoli (UC 115). DePaoli produces a higher proportion of exportable asparagus, with closely spaced bracts of superior quality  of production with respect to marketing  long-term. It is tolerant to Phytophthora megasperma and its tolerance level to Fusarium is similar to that of UC 157.

VARIETIES
UC 115 or DePaoli - F1

The UC 115 variety, called DePaoli, was created by the University of California in 2005. It is a high-yield fresh asparagus that has high productivity, early harvest, and increased export production. DePaoli is a very suitable hybrid for early production of fresh asparagus in hot climates. The tips of this variety remain closed  until the shoot reaches its maximum  elongation, offering a high quality of the final product. DePaoli is a very early, productive and dioecious diploid variety, which is very suitable for the production of high-quality green asparagus for fresh consumption in productive areas with very long and hot seasons and winters that are not excessively cold.

The UC 157 variety, one of the most  old developed by the Genetic Improvement Program  from the University of California Riverside,  and one of the most  planted in warm areas. Presents excellent conditions for production  of fresh asparagus in warm areas, a little more  late  than the Depaoli variety, but which keeps its shoots tightly closed until harvest, reaching diameters  average of 16 mm, with a high percentage of exportable material. DePaoli presents better storage conditions with respect to UC 157, since it maintains higher levels of carbohydrates after cold storage.

ESPADA - F1

ESPADA presents excellent conditions for cultivation in areas with warm climates, with well-closed shoots even at high temperatures. Sword is a very early variety compared to  to UC 157. It shows excellent yields in percentage of exportable material, with average weights of shoots of 23 grams, keeping its apices closed until the shoot reaches its maximum elongation, resulting in a high quality of the final product.
